Behind the Scenes- by

Behind The Scenes is a new feature to the BluesNotes. It's a section intended to inform our membership of the great support the Blues community receives from so many "silent" enthusiasts. Without help from these fine folks, the Blues scene would not be nearly as strong, and certainly would suffer. Behind The Scenes Blues supporters come from all walks of life and areas of expertise, and the CBA wants YOUR INPUT regarding future Behind The Scenes profiles! Send us some info about someone that you know who makes an extraordinary effort on behalf of the Blues! If the person is a musician, please let us know why you think they would be a good candidate for a Behind The Scenes piece ... we will try to include all well-written, verifiable pieces that are submitted.
Kane Taylor (K.T.) is a Portland native with a strong background in musical performance and production.
K.T. has been involved with the CBA since 1988, and has in fact been an integral part of the CBA as both volunteer, (at events, meetings, and other CBA business) photographer, journalist, paper production, layout, copy and design for the
BluesNotes. K. T. has been doing the Calendar section of
the BluesNotes for over 12 years! She also writes for Positively
Entertainment, and does occasional photo-shoots for that publication.
K.T.'s long range goals include a career in music production and performance (she is currently enrolled in the Professional Musician's Certification Program at PCC, as well as a performing member of the PCC Jazz Band), and strengthening her relationships with her children. K.T. has also been instrumental in documenting many Blues events and acts for cable television as videographer and producer.
K.T.'s personal message is, "Musicians can't support themselves here ... they all relocate to a stronger music industry base... I may do that myself." Well, I sure hope that K.T. finds her musical base to be more supportive of her efforts in the future, and look forward to enjoying many more years of her performance art and journalism.
Boyd Martin is a world-class performing drummer (Joanna Connor, Robbie
Laws) and also a much under-appreciated journalist, web-genie, and music promoter, quietly working his magic in Portland for almost 15 years!
Boyd became involved with the CBA back in 1989, and was the very first webmaster for the CBA's website. Boyd also has booked many acts into local venues, and used his expertise on the computer to help countless musicians gain exposure through his musician and band referral sites. (You can log onto Boyd's "Indie-Avenue" website, or any of the many other websites he hosts or links through the url: http://www.mysticbroadcast.org/cyberreach/ . Boyd continues to write for local Our Town, Positively Entertainment, The Downtowner, BluesNotes, and many other fine music publications. Boyd is also the editor of The Portland Music Guide and One Stop Music Review.
Boyd continues to book his own act into clubs and events, as well as book other bands into great Blues venues. Boyd's comment, "I've toured the world as a musician ... Portland is a great town for musicians, but local, city and state governments need to get involved .... the music scene would be much stronger if government got involved." Well, maybe Boyd will blaze a new trail for community involvement with music venues and support.
Bonnie Carter is editor and publisher of the Portland institution Positively
Entertainment. Bonnie has supported the CBA from the very beginning and, in fact, was instrumental in the
BluesNotes ever making it to press. Back in 1989 she taught the CBA Board how to cut and paste, run copy, edit and publish the very first edition of the
BluesNotes.
Bonnie continues her support of the Blues community through tirelessly advocating Blues musicians and venues in her popular paper. She often breaks stories on "new" or undiscovered musicians, venues and events. Bonnie is an activist for community related events, and often runs features on charity and community events that don't make it into any other publication.
You can visit the Positively Entertainment website at http://www.positivelyentertaimnent.com/ . Bonnie Carter has devoted many, MANY hours of her life to helping musicians and venues in Portland. This town is certainly a better place for her efforts, and we owe her a huge THANK YOU!
