Pinetop Perkins

Pinetop Perkins has been recognized by blues audiences as one of the world's top blues pianists ever since he replaced Otis Spann in the Muddy Waters Band in 1969. His talent had already been proven in his earlier years in the South with the King Biscuit Boys, Robert Nighthawk, Earl Hooker, and others, but his name never appeared on record until he settled in Chicago. (He had recorded "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie" for Sam Phillips in Memphis in 1953, but a British reissue label finally released the track more than 20 years later.) Perkins recorded one album and a few scattered tracks of his own during his 11-year stint with Muddy and has waxed several albums since his departure from the band, including two with the Legendary Blues Band.
