Blues In Schools
July Update

Thanks to Paul deLay and Janice Scroggins for their performance as BIS presenters at the Children's Day celebration on June 24th at the Portland Saturday Market. (Paul will also be performing at the Roots & Blues Heritage Festival at the Saturday Market on Sunday, August 12th)

Stu Kinzel and I had a wonderful time doing our BIS presentation on Children's Day, and we were mightily impressed with the kid's acts! Hats off to the music lesson program at Ethos, www.Ethos-inc.com (503) 241-8824, and to the kids who have worked so hard!

Thanks to the irrepressible Michael Basile (Rogue Pub, www.roguepub.com) out in North Plains for his efforts on behalf of BIS! Michael has been offering all-age BIS presentations in his garden (alongside the Rogue Pub, on Commercial Ave., North Plains) each month. He also funded BIS presentations in schools and helped generate interest and support of BIS in Washington County.

This month's BIS shows are great! Peter Dammann has given us the Front Porch Stage at The Waterfront Blues Festival on July 7th, 1:15 pm, to do a BIS presentation for children. (It is my understanding that he has also given stage time to some excellent workshops, with coordinating efforts from Errol Shervey. Great news for the traditional music folks!) Hohner Harmonicas has been one of our very best sponsors and they aren't letting us down for this one ....in fact, they are donating a few boxes of harps to give to the kids at the Blues Fest! Stu Kinzel and I will perform a variety of age appropriate Blues music using several traditional instruments. This show will also be attended by representatives of the CBA and Ethos. Inc., our BIS sponsors and venue support agencies. This would be a good time for anyone interested in getting a BIS presentation for their child's .school to contact our BIS sponsors with questions, comments, or any other sort of proposal. I will distribute as many harps as I am given and will teach a simple song to the kids in attendance at the end of the presentation.

Our next BIS show will be on Sunday, July 15th, in the garden at The Rogue Pub. The time scheduled is 2 pm, and this will be a longer than usual presentation. The "Third Sunday Clinics" have been replaced with Mr. Basile's most excellent educational presentations out in North Plains, and with great success. Each third Sunday this Summer there will be a BIS show for the entire family to enjoy at The Rogue. The start time is generally 2 pm and he will feature a variety of presenters and musical styles.

Thanks for all of your help and thanks to the CBA and Ethos for making it work!
