September Update

Thanks to the Basile family of North Plains for their ongoing support of Blues In Schools (BIS)! Michael Basile has raised enough money to sponsor BIS school shows in North Plains. Each third Sunday of the month he has featured outstanding performances to benefit BIS (on the 5th Sunday this month, Sept. 30th). The Basile family has made a huge impact in Washington County and we thank them for promoting Blues awareness and education! We hope YOU support those efforts at the Rogue Pub.

Our Winter Fundraiser is set for December 14th and will be held at The Cascade Bar & Grill in Vancouver.  So far, we have Paul deLay and his fine accompanist, Bill Rhoades (and his most excellent band, The Party Kings), Robbie Laws, Stu Kinzel, Jim Wallace, KG Jackson, Johnny Moore, Joan Jones, Ken Scandlyn (from the mighty TERRY EVANS BAND) and Megan James on the bill.  This event will feature all electric bands with full rhythm section accompaniment.

I distributed some sponsorship forms at the August General Membership Meeting and want to be very clear about the information contained therein. (Additional forms available on request and watch for the "plastic bucket o' doom" for direct donations at the meetings). The operating budget is $950 and that is with some of us donating our skills (and a donated sound system). As of this writing, I have not received any returned sponsorship forms or donations toward this project. We must make at least half of that amount before the concert to ensure a fat contribution to BIS.

  1. We are looking for dollar donations to help defray expenses accrued in putting the event on. If each person at our assembly were to donate $1 (ONE DOLLAR) we would be able to contribute that much more money to BIS shows in schools.
  2. We are looking for items we can raffle off at the concert. If you need a tax credit receipt for a donated item, please include a value assignation with the item at the time you donate it, with your address, etc.
  3. There will be a cover charge to attend this concert.  For the first time, we are holding the event on a weekend night and most of the musicians on the bill are sacrificing a gig to play this concert and raise money for BIS shows.  CBA members will receive a discount at the door and the door cover will not be excessive (around $7).
  4. Any sponsorship checks should be made out to ETHOS, INC. FOR BIS EVENT 12/14/01.  Don't forget to include FOR BIS 12/14/01 or the check will NOT be channeled into the correct program!  You can mail the checks to:

Portland, OR 97211, ATTN: BIS PROGRAM.

I am keeping EXACT records of donated monies and would prefer to have the checks mailed to me so that I can document each donation as it comes in.
  5. Do not make the check out to the CBA or to me! Ethos will record each donation and mail you a tax credit in a timely fashion! They are keeping track of the EXACT amount of money donated and raised at each of these events and Ethos will cash the checks and get the cash to our artists on the night of the concert event! That way, no mix-ups, the cash will be in a managed fund and you get your tax credit. Ethos has a spotless record for mailing out tax credits. They are our only nonprofit music center for children!
  6. Any monies donated that exceed the amount of cash needed to put the concert on will be put into the BIS program fund. That fund is our primary source for school presentations and pays presenters and traveling expenses (gas for the truck).

So, there you have it! Anyone wanting to help out with the raffle and take donations needs to speak to me personally BEFORE Nov. 14th, so I can get your name on the door list. I will need six volunteers to help with this vital benefit action.

Any person interested in booking a BIS presentation at a public school in the CBA service area MUST contact Adam Reid, our venue support coordinator, at (503) 241-8824, or www. Ethos- Inc.com.

Thanks to the great response our program has received, we are looking forward to another year of presentations ....and it is because of YOU, the CBA members! None of our intentions would have been realized, but for your help, support and belief in the Blues. I am so proud to be a small part of this and to claim you as my "family". From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.
