Ethos, Inc & the CBA Present:

Blues In Schools

November Update

By LynnAnn Hyde

Our public school presentations for October were held at West Powellhurst Elementary School on October 25th and Ardenwald Elementary School on October 26th. The presentations were one hour long and attended by the entire student body and staff. Our November school show will be held at Portland Night High School and will be open to the public, as well as students and staff, on November 29th from 7-8 pm.

BIS wants to thank the following for their generous and timely contributions of cash donations: Dick Pawlack, Alan, from THE SPOT TAVERN, Chris and Larry Wills from THE CASCADE BAR & GRILL, the Arkleys from Independence, Doris Johnson, Tualatin, the Brennekes from N. Portland, and Rob Gibson. I personally thank each of our members for their donations at the Sept. and Oct. monthly meetings, especially Rick Hall, Greg Johnson and Terry Currier.  Because of your continuing support, we have already met our goal for the December 14th Winter Harp Blast BIS Benefit. (That means I won't be asking for further donations during the Nov. and Dec. meetings! Hoooray!) A heartfelt thanks to Miss LeEtta Clark for her hard work on this project!

The donations for our infamous "Artist Raffle" (a huge part of our BIS fundraising!) have been rolling in and include the following items: a gift certificate to Sylvia's Dinner Theater from Bonnie Carter, editor of Positively Entertainment; a brand new Samsung 35mm "Super Zoom" camera and a Hohner 20-Button diatonic concertina, "C" tuned, both donated by LynnAnn Hyde; a photograph of Muddy Waters from his last NW show, framed, donated by Stu Kinzel;  CDs donated by KG Jackson, a beautifully crafted metal sculpture donated by local artist and musician, Johnny Moore; personal items of interest from Jim Wallace. For the many of you who have offered items for the raffle, please contact me at your earliest convenience. I would like to be able to publish your contribution in the BluesNotes, so the quicker the better.  My home phone is 503 788-8759. I no longer have e-mail. so please use the phone.

One last item of interest is the Kid's Blues Harp Brigade which is forming at Ethos HQ (the corner of N. Williams and Killingsworth, N. Portland). Lessons will be held on alternating Monday's, FREE OF CHARGE! We have nine openings left at the time of this writing. For more info on the Kid's Harp Brigade, contact me, or Michelle Boss, at Ethos, Inc. NO ADULT STUDENTS, please!

For information on BIS presentations, scheduling, and artist availability, contact our BIS venue coordinator, Adam Reid, at Ethos, Inc. (Portland's only nonprofit music and learning center!) at 503 281-8824 or at 503 283-8467 or at http://www.ethos-inc.com/ ATTN: Adam Reid.

Thanks again for your generosity and support for BLUES IN (the) SCHOOLS!
