Holiday Party

Saturday, December 15th at the Melody Ballroom - 5:00pm

Terry Robb - The Cannonballs - The Stingers

As your social calendar begins to fill with holiday happenings, be sure to reserve the early evening portion of SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15th. This will be a time for Fellowship and Blues.  No, that's not the name of another new band in town.  Just one more opportunity before we ring in a new year to get together with Blues friends and enjoy some great music.  We look forward to entertainment by the Cannonballs, with James Miller on bass, David Vest, pianist, Marry Henninger, drums and Lloyd Allen on guitar.  They were called the "Surprise hit of the Blues Day" at last year's Bite.  After a break, we can get moving to the Stingers: Franco Paletta on harp, David Ward on guitar, bassist, Bill Baumgartner and Steve Aubrey on drums.  Opening the party will be an acoustic set of Blues by CBA "hall of famer", Terry Robb.

Due to recent changes in OLCC regulations, we were unable to hold the party at The White Horse Grill & Bar as originally announced.  It was felt that having the event open to children was an important part of this CBA function and we would have been unable to do so at The White Horse. Many thanks to Rob, the owner, who offered to host this event. If you haven't gotten by there yet, stop in to pick up some Blues real soon, or at least a sandwich.

So, with the help of our CBA Queen, Susan Stewart, (along with a last minute cancellation), our favorite meeting spot, the MELODY BALLROOM has become available!  A timeframe of 5 to 9 pm allows for errands and shopping during the day, along with the opportunity to catch a show afterwards in town, if you are so inclined. The Melody will be catering some light foods and member bakers are welcome to bring along some extras from your favorite batch of holiday cookies to share; just be sure they are nonperishable.  Bring those kids!  Rumor has it that Santa will make an appearance and provide small gifts.

As this is a fundraiser for the Raphael House again this year, you are encouraged to bring a donation. For those of you who are not familiar with the Raphael House, it provides a safe and caring place for pregnant women who have no other resources to obtain prenatal care and community services. Joanne Arndt of the Raphael House was most appreciative when I called to make arrangements again this year. We talked about what type of items they need. Well, as it turns out, they can use just about anything!  Food items, both perishable (cheese, fresh fruits and veggies, chickens, tortillas . . .) and non-perishable (canned foods, boxed foods, jello, coffee . . . ) to baby food; now there's an aisle I haven't walked down in many years!  And, laundry soap, garbage bags, paper products, household items . . . . the list goes on and on. Hair care products, diapers, towels, to kitchen items necessary to set up housekeeping. For women who are pregnant or have just given birth: lotions, candles, bubble bath, photo frames, journals . . . .

When you are out doing your shopping, simply add an extra item or two to bring with you when you come to our holiday gathering.  Life may seem pretty overwhelming at times, but there are many others who are struggling too.  It helps to keep them in mind, especially this time of year -and it feels good!

Remember, this is a MEMBERS ONLY event, so if you have let your membership lapse, or you still haven't joined for one reason or another, this event provides the motivation.  LeEtta, or one of her assistants, will be there, membership forms in hand!  This is also an opportunity to show your appreciation to Susan Stewart who has served as your CBA President this past year.  Prior to that, she served on the board for many years.  She had some big shoes to fill following in Rick Hall's footsteps, and she has done a fine job for us. Personally, I will most miss her quick humor - greatly appreciated during my first year of Board meetings.

We wish you all the best, Susan!

Holiday Chairperson,
Rose Allen
