Ron Hughes brings us the BIS Thailand Update

Ron Hughs BIS Thailand Thanks to CBA member, Ron Hughes, we have some info on the BIS program from Thailand.

Ron sent me a letter from Thailand describing the most excellent efforts made by Todd Lavelle on behalf of BIS. Mr. Lavelle is a well-known musician, producer and promoter in Thailand. With the help of Singha Beer, Todd did a six-week concert tour that incorporated BIS school presentations in village elementary, middle and high schools. Mr. Lavelle uses traditional American Roots and Blues to connect with these young people and to send them a strong message towards self-determination and social responsibility. He incorporates environmental awareness with the Delta Blues, and provides information to the children regarding the relationship between Blues music and all of the issues he presents during his BIS shows.

Blues In The Schools of Thialand "I attended the BIS show at War Narajaroensek School, and although I don't understand much Thai, I can tell you the kids were enthralled!" Ron told me in his letter. Ron also sent me some photos, and one is included here.

Thanks so much to CBA member Ron Hughes for providing us the information about BIS in Thailand, and a special thanks to Todd Lavelle for all of his hard work. What a thrill to find out that the Blues is just as big in Thailand as it is here in Portland! Mr. Lavelle deserves our thanks and appreciation, as well as our .support here in the U.S. for his wonderful introduction to the Blues.
