On Saturday, February 2nd, Eight of the Northwest's Best "Harp Blowers" will appear at the 7th Annual Blues Harmonica Summit. This all ages show will start at 8 pm and go `till midnight or later with a "Harmonica Jam" at the end of all the featured artists, and will be hosted by Mr. Paul deLay.
The admission will be $8 at the door (or $7 to card carrying CBA members or WBS members).
Here's the lineup of the featured artists:
Paul
deLay -- This man needs no introduction. Paul is
known worldwide as a master of the diatonic and chromatic harmonica's. He
presently has a new recording out called, "Heavy
Rotation". that's getting great reviews.
Bill Rhoades -- For the past 30 years, Bill Rhoades has played the Blues right here in the Northwest. Bill also has out a new recording, which will be available for the first time at the show called, "Don't Loose Your Kool".
Kim Field -- From Seattle, Kim is well respected among harmonica players throughout the world. He has also written the definitive book about harmonica playing called "Harmonicas, Harps, and Heavy Breathing".
Steve Bailey -- Also from Seattle. Steve Bailey recently returned from a European tour, which he booked by himself! Steve has been active with a number of recordings full of great original Blues tunes. An outstanding harp-blower!
Matt Sonnenfelt -- One of the bright new stars, carrying on the classic Blues harmonica, is Matt Sonnenfelt from Eugene, OR. Matt has a lot of stage charisma and is an excellent technician of the Blues harp.
Jim Wallace -- A traditional player of the first caliber, Jim Wallace has played most of his career here in the Northwest. However, his latest CD of original tunes, called "Rush To Hell" was recorded in the Netherlands.
Dave Mathis -- Dave Mathis is half of the popular Blues duo. "Blues Police" with Steve Cameron on guitar and vocals (who will appear with Dave at the show). Dave is known for his great "down home" style of playing and singing.
Mike Moothart -- A veteran of some of the Northwest's most popular Blues bands (including Jim Mesi and Jimmy Lloyd Rea's bands), Mike is a no holds barred, take no prisoners, blow the back off it, kind of player!
There will also be an All-Star House Band backing all of the artists including: ALAN HAGER on guitar, slide guitar, and vocals; JOSH FULERO on guitar, harmonica, and vocals; TOM SZELL on bass (from Cincinnati, Austin and L.A.); and JOHNNY MOORE on drums (played with William Clarke).
This will be a fast paced show, with short sets from each artist, building towards a massive "Harmonica Jam", among the artists, at the end! Don't stay home watching TV. Come out and hear some of the world's best soloists of the humble "Mouth Organ", "Mississippi Saxophone", or "Blues Harp". Eight Harp Blowers for Eight bucks--- that's not too bad!
