The Aladdin Theater Presents:Tab Benoit
|
Two fine Blues shows are set for the "Muddy Award" winning Aladdin
Theater (3017 SE Milwaukie at Powell Blvd. 503 233-1994) this month.
First is earthy, Blues / Rock guitarist Tab Benoit, who will return to the Aladdin Theater to perform early in the month on Sunday evening, March 3rd. Tab was one of the highlights of the 2000 Waterfront Blues Festival, gaining a lot of new fans with his impeccable performance. I t's been a little over 10 years since Tab broke onto the Blues scene as a young 22 year old "hot shot" guitarist. He was tagged as the next Stevie Ray Vaughan, but a lot of young guitar wizards were saddled with that title shortly after SRV's death in 1990. Tab has shown great growth as a Blues musician over the decade since. He has a handle on just how this music should be played and is not just another SRV clone, but has carved out a nice style of his own based around his Louisiana roots. Tab Benoit is developing into a superb Blues musician. He has become a proliferator of the genre and is always appealing to see and hear any time he's in town. Check him out, he's worth the effort!
Then, on Wednesday, March 13th, Hot Tuna will return to the Aladdin for an encore performance of the outstanding acoustic show they did last July. That sold-out show was memorable and centered around a number of captivating Blues and Blues related songs that the duo is noted for, including several by Blues legend. Rev. Gary Davis. When Hot Tuna performs in a band format it's wonderful, but quite a different show from the acoustic duo format. The "Original Acoustic Hot Tuna", Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Casady, are pure magic, both consummate musicians, both expressive entertainers. Their days with the Jefferson Airplane, in the late '60s and early '70s, pale in comparison with what they have done as an out growth of that group. Long live Hot Tuna! Don't miss `em!
Both shows starts at 8 pm / doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are available at TicketMaster outlets or charge by phone 503-2244400. Tickets are also available at the Aladdin Theater Box Office, Wed-Sat 1-6 pm. www.aladdintheater.com.
