This month, I would like to start by saying "thank you" to the CBA Board, and to the membership for their continued support of BIS! Without that support. BIS would not be going as strong as it is. A real HUGE thanks to Rick Hall, Editor in Chief of the BluesNotes, for always finding the space to run BIS updates! A special thank you is sent on behalf of BIS to Richard Hunter (Harmonica Educator Magazine) Al Eichler (American Harmonica Newsletter) and J. Cossaboon (Hohner Harmonica's Easy Reeding Quarterly) for running articles about our BIS program in their international publications. Their continued support has made a big impact with the way our program has been received in the global Blues community.
David Erickson, music educator at Whitman (and other PPS)
and Shera Stinell, music therapist and educator at The
Sojourner School in Oak Grove, both made significant contributions to BIS.
Through their hard work and diligence, we were able to provide two more public
school presentations for Portland's youth. Both David and Shera
contacted BIS regarding presentations at their respective schools ...you
can do the same! Simply contact Adam Reid at (503)
241-8824, or e-mail him at adam@ethos-inc.com
with the contact names for the school you are referring. It is that
simple. You can also contact me directly at (503) 788-8759 or
e-mail me through my website at: www.kinzelandhyde.com.
March had two killer presentations, one at the Arts Magnet School, Clackamas Co. and one at Doernbecher's Children's Hospital. Hohner donated .several boxes of harmonicas and other novelty items to the Doernbecher's show, and they were well received by the children. Musicians interested in performing at Doernbecher's can contact Sandy Westfall, (Music Therapy / Volunteer Coordinator) from their website.
Ethos is going to donate the studio and production time (and skills) to BIS for a CD of one of our performances. There will be an accompanying booklet with information about the program, the material presented during the actual BIS show, information about the artists and specific songs presented, and photos of some of the shows we've done during the past few months. The CBA will be given several of the packets to distribute to interested parties.
I will back-announce the April BIS presentations, as there are some scheduling conflicts at this time. We are still actively seeking professional Blues artists to present BIS shows. A script that includes all of the necessary information is available through Ethos, or from me.
BIS will be at the Rose Parade this year, exact date TBA. We will also be at the Hillsboro Marketplace this summer, for kid's fun under the sun!
Thanks once more to the ENTIRE CBA for their continued support and generosity. The children of Portland thank you, too!
Until the Next
Time...
