America's Best Kept Musical SecretWoody MannSome of the BEST Acoustic Guitar Work you'll EVER hear St. John's Pub *** Thursday, April 4th |
For too long, Woody Mann has been one of America's best kept musical secrets.
If there was a category simply called "Great Music", Woody's playing would belong there" said
John Fahey, not known to be particular effusive in praise of other musicians.
In fact, Terry Robb says that, "Woody was the only other guitar player
John ever had good things to say about." We will have an all-too-rare opportunity to catch a performance from this acoustic, fingerstyle Blues master,
April 4th, at the St. Johns Pub.
Starting when he was a school kid, Woody studied for years with Rev. Gary Davis. They remained close until Davis' death in 1972. Woody's music reflects the influence of Davis, Robert Johnson, Blind Blake, Lonnie Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, combined with an originality that gives him a unique and individual musical voice. Also a scholar of the genre, Woody has produced much of the existing transcriptions of these pioneers' recordings, including all of Robert Johnson's recorded music.
Woody's recordings, videos and instructional materials are too numerous to list, so check out www.woodymann.com and come out to St. Johns, Thursday evening, April 4th; listen to a "living legend".
