Ethos, Inc & the CBA Present:

Blues In The Schools

June, 2002 Update

This month I was honored to accompany Jan Bisconer (longtime CBA board member) as she received a grant of $600 from the children of Carus Elementary School for Blues In The Schools (BIS) presentations. CBA Treasurer Del Seitzenger and Jan were part of the Community 101 program the Carus kids participated in. Through Jan's and Del's efforts, the CBA is assured of another school year (2003-2004) that will feature in-school presentations. Jan has supported all of our community programs to the fullest extent, and Del manages the CBA finances, including over 12 months of continual financial support of BIS. Del also managed the Third Sunday Clinics funding from 1999-2000. This means he had to write a check each month (or performance) for whatever artist did the workshop or BIS show. We had cancellations and other mishaps, and Del was always there with the artist's check in hand. Way to go Jan and Del in securing 2003 funding for BIS shows!

Ethos, Inc. - Dedicated to Music and Music Education    On that note, we arranged a show for Carus in May. We also participated in the "Acoustic Hallways" program at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. A philanthropic group dedicated to alleviating some patient discomfort while in the hospital founded Acoustic Hallways. Acoustic musicians "stroll" the hospital hallways and serenade various patients who want to hear the music. Study after study has proven that music has a healing effect on the body, and the AH effort is truly wonderful for the patients and their families, the hospital staff and the musicians themselves.

Look for BIS at several summer music camps (TBA), and support the entire arts movement by enrolling your kids (or grandchildren) in a music camp this summer!

BIS was at the SE Music Center at the end of May, and also at Ethos Headquarters on N. Killingsworth for a presentation dedicated to young musicians.

In June, the Rose Festival is hosting a BIS show at 2 pm on Sunday, June 2. We will also be doing a BIS show for the Salem Arts Fair, Albany Arts Fair, Hillsboro CC, and the Boardman, Washington Music Festival.

The honor is mine to continue to provide BIS education. Because of a turnover in personnel at Ethos, we have not had the opportunity to do as many BIS shows as we anticipated. However, the funding is still there for the shows and we are making progress with new bookings this month.

Thanks to the CBA membership, BIS is in its third year of viable programming.

Until the next time,
