Woodshed Productions Presents:Oregon GI Blues
|
Greetings
from the WOODSHED: The Oregon GI Blues Music Festival (OGIBMF) is shaping
up quite nicely!
First of all, OGIBMF sends out mucho kudos to 1st Tech Federal Credit Union! This is a financial institution that recognizes our community and its needs..."Banking Outside The Box..."
Saturday, September 28th, 1st Tech Federal Credit Union presents "The Matriarch of the Blues," the amazing, the incredible, Etta James and The Roots Band. Called "a singer of unprecedented power and appeal" by Rolling Stone, Etta James was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. She's been nominated for Grammy Awards eight times and won in 1995 for "Best Jazz Vocal Performance" for her Private Music album "Mystery Lady", a tribute to Billie Holiday, one of her earliest influences. Given her remarkably diverse taste, Etta allows for few distinctions between musical genres, and her prolific output over the years touching on everything from Pop to Country to Jazz to Blues has reflected that eclecticism. "I want to show people that Gospel, Country, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz and Rock 'N' Roll are all really just one thing," explains the singer. "Those are the different faces of American Music, and it's all part of American Culture." Etta James has received 12 W.C. Handy Awards, which represent the highest honor given in the Blues industry.
This year's Oregon GI Blues Music Festival is a "Tribute To John Lee Hooker"....and staying with that thought, Mr. Hooker influenced most every genre of American Music we enjoy today.
Friday, Setember 27th, OGIBMF will kick off this powerhouse of a weekend with...Chris Thomas King. He won three Grammy Awards this year for the soundtrack of "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" Don't think we are done with this "feast of a festival"...remember what I said a few months ago? You're gonna want to write this one down in the big book and have the T-shirt to prove it!
Be sure to catch Blues legend Robert Jr. Lockwood in a rare solo appearance at this year's Festival. Robert Jr. Lockwood is what the Blues is all about! (Robert received his second Honorary Doctorate degree in Music from Cleveland State University last month).
Stay tuned for more updates - be sure to stay connected to Woodshed Productions, your Northwest talent resource.
Tickets for this event will be on sale at all local TicketMaster outlets.
