No longer Mt. Hood's best-kept secret...

The hospitable owners, Dave Butt and Charlie Wessinger, welcome you to the cozy confines of the Ratskeller...

Bikinis and warm beaches were not the only way to have fun this summer. So, while everyone in the Great Northwest was striving for that sexy tan, I was strapping myself in my seatbelt and headin' for the mountain. Here you thought I was going up skiing, right? Well, if you never made it up to Mt. Hood during the summer months on a Sunday evening, you really have been missin' out. The best Blues Jams ever heard can be found there!

Shh! I could tell you the "total scoop," but then the secret will be out! Oh heck! Why keep a great barrage extravaganza away from all fellow Blues followers anyway? These lively Blues Jam sessions have been rockin' the Pacific Northwest's massive volcano that lies 60 miles east of Portland, Oregon for some time now with some of the GREATEST NORTHWEST BLUES MUSICIANS around. We're talking about a core band consisting of Alan Hager on guitar, David Kahl on bass, Jeff Minnick on drums and Dover Weinberg on keyboards — and these folks are joined at various times by local luminaries like Lloyd Jones, Paul deLay, Curtis Salgado, Duffy Bishop and others.

The Ratskeller is found on Government Camp's main drag, Government Camp Loop. The jam sessions start around 6 p.m. and go till about 10 p.m. each Sunday evening. This place they call "The Rat" is very woodsy and rustic inside and out. Yes, they even have a grand old rock hearth fireplace! The Rat is also known for its fine dining experience. For all you pizza lovers, this is definitely the best pizza crust around! You can even create your own masterpiece! There's a billiard table for you pool sharks and plenty of places to park inside and out!

The Cascade Blues Association is proud to welcome The Ratskeller as a new Supporting Sponsor. This is a venue that you really should scope out. The Ratskeller is located at 88335 E. Government Camp Loop on Mt. Hood; call 503-272-3635, or visit their Web site! I hope to see you there sometime in the future! Remember to say "Hi" to Charlie when you drop in. He is quite the host!
