Tuesday nights in February will kick off the return of Blues to SE Portland when CBA "Muddy Award" winner, Dover Weinberg, starts his Blues Jam at It's A Beautiful Pizza. The restaurant is located at 3341 SE Belmont, and has a reputation for its gourmet food. The owner, Carl Sandstrom, opened up a downstairs room, completely remodeled, just last Christmas.
Carl uses the space for sporting events (he has a big screen TV and smaller Sony TVs throughout the room), poetry slams, theater presentations and music. The Creative Music Guild held a highly successful Jazz event there on New Year's Eve, which led Carl to give Dover the green light to do the Blues Jam.
For all you jammers that remember the Terraplanes Jam on Sundays, at The Belmont Inn, and gigs over at Mark's Hawthorne Pub, this announcement is cause for celebration. The Eastside is back!
The house band will consist of Dover Weinberg (Jim Mesi) on keyboards, Chris Carlson (Duffy Bishop) on guitar, Dave Kahl (Duffy Bishop) on bass, and Ron Leech on drums. The jams will start at 8:00 pm and run until 12:00 pm every Tuesday. Dover and the band will play the first set, unless a lot of jammers are waiting to play, in which case, they will start giving jammers a chance to play after the band does a few tunes.
There's Blues, great pizza and microbrews waiting for you at It's A Beautiful Pizza.
See ya there!
