Opening Acoustic Set: Dave Mullany
Second Electric Set: The Rick Welter Band
Hey! Where did the summer go? Can’t believe it’s already time for the September Membership Meeting. But we’re going to keep the good time feelings of the summer alive and the monthly meetings are always a great location for that to happen.
Opening up the meeting this month will be the superb acoustic bluesman Dave Mullany. It has been more than two years since we last hosted Dave at one of our meetings, so we’re long overdue to have him treat us with his skills. But just because we haven’t brought him down to The Melody Ballroom lately, doesn’t mean he’s not out and about. In fact since his last meeting appearance we even had Dave as one of our featured showcase acts for the Far West Folk Alliance Festival and he was also part of the big band who played behind Ellen Whyte for her CD release party. Besides playing and teaching locally, Dave has a long resume of performing alongside many of the bona fide giants of the music industry, including Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Bob Brozman, Woody Mann, Shawn Colvin, Willie Nelson, Jorma Kaukonen, Jerry Garcia, Mary Flower and many others. Honestly, Dave Mullany may just be one of the most hidden musical treasures of our city, so make a point to catch up with him at the meeting.
One of the highlights of the past few months certainly has to be the release of the long-awaited CD from the Rick Welter Band. Titled I’m All Yours, the disc is filled with catchy, full-bodied guitar sounds that bring to mind the best of the blues from years gone by. But it’s not old and stodgy, it’s fresh and invigorating. What’s more, it sounds even better when heard live and that’s just what will happen during the second set of the meeting as the Rick Welter Band plans on getting the place to shaking. Alongside Rick’s guitar and vocals, the band for the night will feature the incomparable John Neish on bass and the steady back-beat of drummer Mike Klobas. Hearing this music may just put in your mind a possible selection for the Muddy Awards in Best Recording, who knows? Regardless if that is the case or not, this is certain to be one of the most fun-filled sets of music of the year.So grab your friends and head down to The Melody Ballroom on Wednesday, September 2nd, starting at 7:00 pm. It’s always free and open to all ages. You’ll also have the chance to win CDs, concert tickets and more just by attending; so make sure you get your drawing ticket at the door when you come in. You can also purchase $1 tickets for the chance to win a multi-CD package we’ll have just for this meeting. Live blues, good friends and a chance to win prizes . . . do you need any other reason to join in the fun?
See you there!
