New CBA Website

As you have noticed (in addition to my spelling and grammar errors), the Cascade Blues Association has redesigned their website. This is a significant change, providing a richer experience for you, the visitors, while simplifying the maintenance for us, the CBA. As with any change, some of you will think this is great and immediately adopt it; others will accept it and make do; and of course there will be a group that think it was a mistake (for various reasons). No matter where you fit, this is our new platform. Here are some of the things that have changed and some of the things that are new.

Changes:

  1. The popular CBA calendar is now one click deeper: Calendar and Events >> Blues Event Calendar. This provided us the capability to expose all our blues events, such as the CBA Sponsored and CD Release Party events. For those that are not real excited about this change, I encourage you to bookmark the Blues Event Calendar page, and use it as your link into the CBA website.
  2. NW and/or Portland titles have changed to Cascade Blues (see the menu link Cascade Blues). This is to better represent our region. We're more than Portland, but we do not cover all the Northwest either.
  3. The Bandstand section is alive again. You'll find it under Cascade Blues >> Bandstand. The first content will appear on August 1st, after the August BluesNotes is delivered.
  4. The Muddy Awards has its own top-level navigation link. This is the top recognition a performer can get from our community, the CBA, and it was a bit lost. By-the-way, if you haven't watched the Muddy Award videos (Muddy Awards >> Muddy Award Videos) captured by Kathy Rankin, check them out, you're in for a real treat!

New:

  1. Several new categories.
    1. "Ramblings On My Mind" from our CBA President Greg Johnson
    2. CD Reviews (Reviews >> CD Reviews)
    3. Venue Reviews (Reviews >> Venue Reviews) -- no content yet
    4. Photos and Videos (Cascade Blues >> Photos and Videos)
  2. Easy to adjust font-size control.
  3. Improved search (last menu item)
  4. Several article related improvements
    1. Author
    2. Post date / time
    3. Easy to PDF, print, or email

As you explore, I'm sure you will discover other changes and improvements. In places where we are duplicating content that appears in the BluesNotes, most cases that content will not appear until after the BluesNotes has been delivered to your mailbox. (Join the CBA if you're not getting the BluesNotes in your mailbox.)

I could go on, but let me close with this. In coming on board as the new Webmaster, this redesign was the top priority from the CBA Board. And as you can see, there are still some rough edges to improve upon, but it's here. Further, there have been other request from the community, such as continued improvements to the calendar. I will continue to evaluate and address these as time permits. In the mean time, if so inclined, feel free to send me your ideas, feedback, and comments, as the one thing I know for sure, "I don't have all the best ideas or all the right answers." I wont make any promises that I can address your input, but I can promise that I will listen to it.

Chris, CBA Webmaster
