It's that time again Folks. Time for some of the Northwest's finest Harmonica players to dust off those mouth organs, French harps, or Mississippi saxophones and present some of the best Honkin', Hootin' and Blowin' this side of Clarksdale, Mississippi.
On Saturday February 25th, at the Melody Ballroom (downstairs) will be the 2012 Blues Harmonica Summit. This years headliner will be the fantastic Mitch Kashmar. Known as one of the greatest players on the scene today, Mitch has three recordings on the Delta Groove label, has been playing with one of the most famous R&B, Soul, Funk bands ever -- WAR, and is continuing to blaze new trails on the Harmonica. Mitch has been at it for many years, starting off in S. California. After you hear him play, I think you'll agree that he's one of the Best!
Also on the bill will be the Daddy of Northwest Harp blowers. Johnnie Ward. Having played in many formats including Jug bands, Blues bands, duos, and more, Johnnie has some twists and turns on the Harp like nobody else. Johnnie continues to stay active on the local scene and is playing better than ever!
Next is a name that anyone here in the Northwest, who knows about Blues Harmonica, is familiar with. Mike Moothart. Over the years Mike has played with Jimmy Lloyd Rea, Jim Mesi and has traveled as far as Australia playing Blues. Mike is known for his hard blowing style and spends alot of money buying new Harmonicas.
And last is a man known as the Godfather of the Northwest Blues scene. Bill Rhoades. Having received the C.B.A. Muddy award for "Lifetime Achievement" in 2011, Bill has also taken home seven "Muddies" for "Best Blues Harmonica" over the years. Bill has also had the pleasure to have backed up Albert Collins, Jimmy Rogers, Luther Tucker and many other Blues Greats.
But don't forget our All-Star House Band, backing up all the featured artists. On one guitar, will be the one and only Rick Welter. Rick has not only been winning over audiences with his outstanding guitar work, but also his great original songs and style.
On the other guitar will be a man getting more well deserved recognition every time he plays. Alan Hager. A master of many styles, Alan has been staying busy teaching, playing in duos, in bands, and recording.
The bassman will be one of the most sought after and well respected players here in the Northwest. Albert Reda. Being able to also play piano and guitar doesn't hurt. Albert has an excellent touch and natural style on the Bass.
And holding down the percussion duties will be Jeff Minnick. Another great all around player, Jeff has not only spent time playing in Austin, Texas but spent time in the bands of Harmonica giants Paul deLay and Gary Primich.
So there you have it! The 2012 Blues Harmonica Summit. Careful when coming in the Melody Ballroom on Saturday Feb. 25th.
There will be alot of wind/hot air blowing in and out of the doors!
