Duff’s Garage on Friday, August 28th

Former Portlander and piano wizard David Vest returns to town for another of his much too rare visits on Friday, August 28th at Duff’s Garage (1635 SE 7th). A master of numerous keyboard methods that include a blend of blues, jazz, gospel, country and some down-right tasty boogie woogie, Vest is assured to be preaching from the temple of the divine 88s as only somebody whose fingers must’ve been blessed by his maker can accomplish.

David Vest has worked with some of the music world’s most talented artists, including Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Dorsey, Bill Black’s Combo, , Jimmy “T-99” Nelson, Tammy Wynette, not to mention Portland’s own blues legend, the late Paul deLay. More recently he has appeared with various combinations of regional keyboardists for a popular series of festival appearances called Northwest Pianorama. Besides his accomplishments as pianist, Vest is also a gifted poet and songwriter, who is also known for his openness regarding today’s social issues, but he’ll be the first to tell you in his own music, “Don’t blame me for where the govern went, B.B. King is my president!” Expect a little mix of all genres, a touch of Sun Ra will probably be thrown in, and a good dose of blues. Whatever he presents, David Vest is somebody you can always count on for a show worth attending again and again!
