I have been watching, and listening, of course, to Robbie Laws for the last ten years with the various incarnations of his band. When he formed this new band back in January along with Jim "Cannonball" Miller I think he hit the mark. Even when performing some of the songs I've heard him do many times before, with this band there is a new energy and focus. This may be the outfit that gets Robbie and his band members some well deserved National attention. Every member of Hoodoo Nation holds his own, adds to the ensemble and raises the bar several notches. Robbie, as a guitar player, is displaying all of his old fire, plus nuances and subtleties way beyond what I've ever heard him do before. Catch this "new act" soon, you won't be disappointed!!!
Robbie Laws - Guitar
Ken Brewer - Keyboards
Drew Baird - Tenor Saxophone
Bill Mead - Drums
Jim "Cannonball" Miller - Bass |

Yep, Robbie just keeps on getting Better.
You wanna pay attention to every riff - and they keep coming!
Robbie's Acoustic Duo presentation at Kalama (a couple weeks ago) set a perfect tone for a day in the hot sun. Made the BBQ taste Just Right.
No wonder Robbie's HooDoo Nation band is so HOT - Drew has *never* played a tepid or boring note on that Sax...and Jim's drive and professionalism brings quality to everything in which he participates.
Not a slacker in th' whole dang bunch. Go outta your way to catch ya some HooDoo!

The new grouping with Hoodoo Nation is absolutely one of the best outfits Robbie has ever pieced together and I'm hoping they do attract attention outside of the Pacific Northwest. But truth be told, the only way you're going to gather that attention is to go out and play outside the region, too. Robbie has garnered recognition outside before. He has done festivals, such as Fort Lauderdale, in the past. He even was brought on stage in Memphis following the Handy Awards to play with Ronnie Earl. Making ends meet is always a tough go for a musician, when playing music alone cannot pay all the bills so daytime work also has to be had. These guys have the goods. I'm hoping that Fate will play into their hands and we start seeing Robbie Laws' Hoodoo Nation billed alongside major acts around the country soon.
