Thank you all so much for choosing us for the Muddy for Regional Act and for selecting Hank for the Muddy for Harmonica.....We are really thrilled....and it was a lot of fun for Ty & Hank to get the chance to sit in with the Strangetones too.
Thank you all!

I think that scambell is trying to say that these awards have become redundant. for the most part, all the usual suspects taking home awards. As someone who has been a member of the CBA for 8 years, attended every x-mas party, picnic, as well as many many many events, I can say with complete confidence that if you are not in the clique, don't expect an award. My wife, family and I have managed to stay invisble for almost 9 years, and I have a couple of anonymous musician friends that have managed to do the same. Look at the generous send off Mr. Hall received.
Enough said. |

http://www.cascadeblues.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1964&highlight=rick+hall Don't wish to get involved in behind the scenes political BS. Just belaboring the obvious. This is a subject Greg has addressed in a previous article. Kinda, sorta. Speaking only for myself, I'd be hard pressed to even name ONE candidate in every category, let alone choose the best of three. These awards in no way reflect "best of", which is, admittedly subjective. How do you choose the "best of" three superb musicians? Especially if you've never seen, listened to , or even heard of two of them?

Well I think the entire 'awards' thing is rough. I won the Los Angeles Independent R&B Artist of the Year for my 1999/2000 pop/funk CD and it didn't get me a record deal or sell any more CD's than I was already selling. It didn't get me any more gigs. It didn't do much really. But it is nice to post all over the place. And it is a compliment if won honestly. And I did win that honestly. I put out a great fantastically produced CD and it deserved that award.
But the world is based on competition and competing, and on one hand it's unfortunate because it fosters insecurities and jealousies but on the other hand it can push us to our best at times. One has to keep it all in perspective with ones ego and soul path.
Another point is that many artists become huge in the industry that I don't care for and I'll say under my breath, "how the hell did that person get to where they are.. I don't understand it." However, just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is music a 'personal choice' in the ear of the listener.
And in the huge big scope of life and death and why the hell are we here anyway... if music is your path and you are meant to take on some level of notariety and fame, it really doesn't matter how talented you are, you will traverse that path. And the same goes the other way.... some come to earth to traverse the path of struggle, struggle, struggle and no matter how talented they are or how many contacts they make, or how hard they work, they just cannot get it off the ground.
In simple terms, we each have our journies on this earth. I personally have to believe that because we do die and don't live forever, if we don't have a path that pushes our buttons and makes us strive to become better and more loving people, what the hell are we here for? What kind of joke would it be?
But this is starting to get into another whole topic and so I will stop.
Awards are wonderful, but the bottom line is, the best award is when you get to go out an give of your soul musically and have those precious fans come up and tell you how you touched their hearts. That's the award I love the best. Makes the entire night of slugging gear around and sweating and being completely exhausted the next day worth every second. |
