| I'm always a fan of unknown blues talent, and I found one last week. Listening to the CDBaby website I was quickly intrigued by KM Williams. If you like raw gutbucket blues I think you might like this guy. He is a combination of Texas Country, and North Mississippi Hill Country type blues with a lot of Gospel. Take a listen, you might like it. I ended up ordering 3 cds after I finished listening, and inmtend to order at least a couple more. |

I agree! Bought one of his CD's awhile back.
I also really dig Keith Dunn! Ruthie Foster has a coupla good ones as well as many local artists. There is a huge catalog of Blues artists listed.
Cd Baby has been a great vendor for indie artists, especially Blues that does not meet the criteria for "marketing" from recognised distributors.
It has been my experience that CD Baby (and others like Southern Records,Blue Paciic, BlueBeat, etc) turn a better profit for me (the artist) than distribution ever did. If an artist is unable to "tour" to "back" a CD, it is nearly impossible to find a reputable distribution outlet. In fact, we no longer have a "distributor" in the US and rely only upon internet retailors.
Thanks for mentioning KM and reminding us of the fantastic music available from CD Baby, right here in Portland! |

| I should have titled the topic CD BABY. Its a great place to listen to blues before you buy. Another example is Markus James who plays acoustic with a mix of African music, but hopefully one won't just listen. |

I recently ordered a dvd of a concert KM did in Italy, and it was fabulous. Some of the songs included an Elmore James like " The Sky is Crying", "Come on into my Kitchen" by Robert Johnson, and songs by Lightning Hopkins, and RL Burnside.
If you go to CD BABY, you can listen to samples, and also get to his website, and order another cd. KM also was filmed going about singing, and also preaching as he is actually a preacher, and the film is called Santified Boogie. He sent me a partial of it which is again fabulous, and the whole film can be ordered at www.levelgroundfilms.com.
This guy is fabulous, and you not only have to hear him, you have to see him as I did on the dvd. If this sounds like a promotion campaign, well maybe it is, and I would definitely like to see him out here live. At least give the CD Baby samples a try. |
